Swell Deal Struck As They Take To The Waves!

We were the main sponsor of the 2014 Brown Cup Scottish Schools Regatta. Staged over three days on Loch Earn, the regatta is organised by Loch Earn Sailing Club. 2014 marked its 55th annual competition.

Around 40 children aged between 7 and 17 from across Scotland took to the water over the weekend for tuition, receiving training on the finer points of dinghy racing from qualified Royal Yachting Association coaches. On the Monday, the youngsters put the skills they had learnt into practice when they competed in a series of races alongside 40 other young sailors. The field of nearly 80 competitors represented 36 schools from across Scotland, including Robert Gordon’s College, Cults Academy, the Albyn School and Alford Academy.

The main trophy of the regatta, The Brown Cup, is awarded to the top school team of three boats – including both single and double-handed yachts – and was won by Hermitage Academy, Helensburgh in 2014.

Xtreme's MD, Graeme Duncan, said: “Xtreme Business Solutions was very pleased to sponsor the Brown Cup Scottish Schools Regatta, which is widely regarded as a blue-ribbon event in Scottish junior sailing.  As a sailor myself it is fantastic to be able to support this event and encourage the country’s future sailing talent. The success of the Team GB sailing squad at the London Olympics will have provided plenty of inspiration to these young mariners and it is important that they have opportunities such as this to develop their skills.”

Colin Tait of the sailing club said: “The Brown Cup and prior training weekend have grown to become highly-regarded events in the Scottish junior sailing year. It is always brilliant to see so many young sailors taking part in the three-day event and the races on Monday are all keenly fought.

“The expert tutelage that they receive from some of the country’s top sailing coaches always inspires many to take their sailing further, which is very rewarding. Hopefully some may even make it to national squad level and challenge for an Olympic place in years to come. The support of companies such as Xtreme Business Solutions is vital to the weekend’s events being staged.”
